Fitness Empire, Wattala: seven months on Metric
Fitness Empire is a gym on Negombo Road in Wattala, run by Zulfi Ahamath. It moved its members onto Metric on 28 February 2026. These are its figures as of 5 October 2026, read from Metric’s own records with the gym’s permission.
The gym
Fitness Empire sells monthly memberships: of the 231 members registered on Metric since it joined, all but 2 are on a monthly plan. On 5 October 2026, 134 of them were active.
The texts the desk no longer sends by hand
Every text below went out automatically from the gym’s account, without anyone at the desk typing it. The reminder schedule is the one Metric runs for every monthly member.
- 127 welcome texts, one for each new member.
- 453 receipts, sent when a payment is recorded, with the next due date.
- 301 reminders three days before a due date.
- 221 reminders on the due date itself.
- 122 notices to members whose payment was overdue.
- 42 welcome-back texts to members who returned.
The desk’s month
Payments are recorded at the desk as members pay. Fitness Empire recorded about 90 payments a month from March to July, 148 in August and 166 in September.
When members pay
From April to September, 531 renewals were recorded. 48.2% were recorded on or before the day they were due, and 81.5% within a week of it. What happens to the rest is set out in when to expire or cancel an overdue membership.
In the owner’s words
“We cut our admin time by 80% in the first month. The automated reminders alone paid for the subscription.”

How these figures were counted
Every figure was read from Fitness Empire’s records in Metric on 5 October 2026, with the gym’s permission. They count records, so a renewal’s date is the day the desk recorded the payment, which can be later than the day the member paid. 30 payments recorded twice on the same day were removed before the renewal figures were worked out.
Three things are left out on purpose: whether each text was delivered, because the SMS gateway does not report that back to Metric; any comparison with how the gym ran before, because there are no earlier records in Metric to compare with; and money amounts, which are the gym’s own business.
